Mahshid Noshirvani (born in 1951, Tehran) has studied documentary photography at Yale University. This photo series of Malleable, and Margarine factories such as khalij and Khorous taken in 1979, were first shown in the exhibition entitled “work and worker” at Bagh-ferdos art center back in 1980. In these photos, Noshirvani achieved a very delicate task i.e. that of providing an intimate space in which workers could firmly manifest their presence through their resolute looks. The arduous work conditions, ragged uniforms, bodies worn-out from repetitive, soulless jobs, lost youths and dreams which more likely would never come true, are all presented here. The workers themselves, however, show no weakness. They just force us to look at them!
